What an incredible journey it has been! After a whirlwind couple of weeks shifting gears from a planned trip to Morocco to the vibrant shores of Senegal, I finally arrived in this captivating country. The preparations were intense—navigating a maze of vaccines, stocking up on malaria pills, and making sure I had everything needed for this new adventure.

As I reflected on my last few months spent bonding with educators who were supposed to join me in Morocco, I felt a flutter of nerves. Starting from scratch in a new cohort made me feel as if I was ten steps behind everyone else who had already formed connections with one another. However, what I hadn’t anticipated was the overwhelming support and warm welcome from this incredible group of teachers.

Last night, 21 passionate educators from across the United States gathered at JFK, ready to embark on our journey to Senegal. The excitement in the air was infectious! After an overnight flight, I awoke to the bright sun of Dakar, a refreshing change from the rain-soaked days of Connecticut.

A short bus ride later, and we arrived at the most stunning hotel, with the sound of the waves gently kissing the shore. It was a breathtaking sight. We ended our first day with a delicious meal and plenty of laughter, setting the perfect tone for what promises to be a life-changing experience.

I cannot wait to see what tomorrow holds! Stay tuned as I continue to share the adventures that await in beautiful Senegal!
